The Indestructibles: High-Speed Bike Crash

The Indestructibles: High-Speed Bike Crash

48 min Dokumentika

Tumbling off a bicycle at a speed of 108 mph is beyond imagination for most anyone. But not for a professional downhill speed biker like Eric Barone with multiple world speed records on a bicycle. For him its the worst case scenario. And on May 12, 2002 on Volcano Cerro Negro in Nicaragua it came true. Eric Barone had already passed the velocity sensor and had done a new world record when his bike suddenly broke in two. By watching the crash it seems almost impossible that anybody could survive such an accident. But Eric Barone did. That raises two key questions we will answer in this episode. Why did Eric Barones bike break and how could he survive an impact at 108 mph? With the help of different experts and their equipment we visit several locations and do exciting experiments like jumping off a ledge or crashing a dummy into a barrier. But theres more to it than that. Speed biker Markus Stoeckl joins in the experiments to prepare to break Eric Barone's May 12, 2002 record - without the crash.
